What if strategic points in cities were reimagined as spaces for coexistence, empowering local commerce, and open areas for creative people who want to make themselves known—once again prioritizing people over cars. So why not create permissive public spaces that foster community and promote creativity?

Addressing the rise of empty spaces in the city center of Bremen as a consequence of the pandemic and other crises gave our team the opportunity to collaborate with Cesam 58 [+] and present a project with strategies to revitalize urban space and prioritize people.

The repurposing of empty spaces to multifunctional spaces will allow local entrepreneurs to showcase, artists to display their works, and the community  to enjoy a variety of recreational events and activities.

To position people as users of these spaces, it is necessary to slow down traffic in the city center. To achieve this, traffic islands will be installed to help decelerate vehicle traffic. The islands are composed of modules that fulfill different functions such as gardeners, bicycle parking, benches, furniture for gastronomy, among others.

"Da Zwischen" was part of the Interspace - die Nachhaltige Stadt project exhibition, offering visitors an immersive experience and interactive presentation reflecting the aspirations of Bremen's citizens.

The aim is to prioritize people over cars again and to transform the city center into a more welcoming and vibrant place, promoting social interaction and local economic development.
